About Gina

Gina Potter is a registered primary teacher and researcher with a deep interest in student agency, nature-based learning, and supporting smooth transitions into school. She brings rich experience from both mainstream and alternative education settings, and is committed to creating learning environments where children are seen, heard, and empowered.

Gina has taught across lower and middle primary levels and is a strong advocate for play as a foundation for engagement and wellbeing in the classroom.

In 2020, Gina led a Teacher Led Innovation Fund (TLIF) project exploring nature-based learning in an urban context, with a focus on how curiosity and environment can ignite learner agency. She is continuing this line of inquiry as a PhD candidate at Auckland University of Technology, where she is researching student agency in play-based and progressive settings.

Her work with Longworth Education focuses on all areas of play pedagogy, supporting teachers and schools to ensure that every learner experiences their school journey with confidence, identity, and a sense of belonging.
